what if sight went away

and you could not see the shimmery fog

move like a ghost

across the early morning

green waking field

what if you could hear the bird

outside your window

but never see her bright yellow breast

as she builds herself a nest

on a branch hidden by leaves

on a nearby tree

what if you could feel all eyes on you

in an empty room

and yet you never knew

what if you could only hear a voice

calling your name

but see no tears welling in kind brown eyes

right before you said good bye

what if you could hear hate

and only feel love

could you find your way in the dark

because our light is slowly fading away

would it matter to you

if the lights went out

on this beautiful spring day

would it be okay to touch the rose

and inhale its sweet scent

and never know it was a dusty pink

and i think

with eyes closed

we live much the same way

and the minutes

the hours

the days slip away

into a nothingness

nothing lost

nothing gained

no heart

just empty pain
