I think it depends on the child. My parents were like yours while I was in college. They paid for everything. I did appreciate all of it. Once I was married, they would help in a crisis. When my dad died of brain cancer, I was there for my mom. I have a developmentally disabled sister, so I took on a new role. When my mom became ill, I helped her with medical cost and eventually assisted living. We mutually helped each other. I am very responsible and I am raising my son as I was raised. I will always help him.
