the end

someday

there will be a moment

in that blink

the losses will be far too great

the land will be hollow

the arctic will be water

soaking wet

the insects will be lost to a violent past

the fireflies in the blue ridge will no longer dance

the butterflies will be difficult to describe

to children who can’t begin to comprehend

the awe of what once was

sacred awe

the sublime

of a juicy peach ozzing into your mouth

the juice running down your chin

into summer bliss

the deer will no longer be hunted

the wolf

the fox

all gone

the buzzard circles

over ravaged storm landscapes

of liminal despair

the quiet empty

no one cries for help

the silence of falling to knees

a final prayer

of forgive me

the moment humans give up

surrender to big oil

to evil men

running to the hills of a green nowhere

they were already lost

a sickness of no heart

counting their money

and drooling at all cost

the waves of death

floods

drought

heat

so hot

cold

too cold

extremes

covering all that the madmen destroyed

and yet a flower blooms

somewhere

a rainbow streaks across a pink sky

and no one sees it

the universe trembles

sighs

for now

only desperate

whispered goodbyes

to which no one hears
