i think i’ll take a ride

on the other side of is

a trailer of what might be

i will roll down the windows

and smell the sea

i will let joni serenade me

with puffs of clouds and both sides now

i will worry what will

happen to me

alone in this foreign town

i will sit outside the cafe and feel the sun

warm me on this day of revolution

i will order iced tea half sweet with lemon

i will feel sonder all around me

i will close my eyes and dream this dream

a dress rehearsal to at last

and i will ask the past

to carry me

and it will forever say no

i will love you

only if you be this way

but i no longer recognize

the stranger it claims

crouching in my brain

the person i had become

i escorted all of that away

swept the dust

to never land

and here i am

in possibility

opening the windows to take a long look

polishing the tarnished

scraping and painting the rust

anything

everything

contrary to must

a pilgrim in a new land

the other side of yesterday

journeying to i am

there are no short cuts

no one giving me a hand

just rainbows in the distance

luring me

through all that was

what is

and then there is me

standing there with a rose

and a pot of gold

that no one else can see

and i wake up to

maybe a sprinkling of destiny

and all that should be
