wedding day

maybe marriage requires whole souls

half souls will never ever make the journey

the broken roads

the storms

the blue sky that often does not come

and the realization

that no one completes us

we must know ourselves

as if we are our own favorite book

we must know what we desire

how we like our tea

soft pillows

or maybe not

city lights

country skies

we must always meet the sunrise alone

and give ourselves a day

that will never fail to intrigue

the one we love

we must rewrite chapters that never worked

and evolve

change

love

and love

as the earth continues to revolve

around the sun

every single day we must elicit wonder

awe

a sacred intimacy

in gazing into our lover’s eyes

and we must feel everything

that everything is always like new

and in the blue hour

if we find ourselves alone

as the sun sets

in glorious pink orange hues

a reminder to us of the mysteries of why

of why we love

day after day after day

when we feel empty

sometimes quite lost

we will remember this day

that we made a promise

to our hearts

that we will bring ourselves

completely alive

to each other

and when one can’t

the other will carry the soul

that knows us best

and our love will rest

in that certainty

that trust

because love is the practice

of sharing ourselves with another

and to be free to be who we are

in the bareness of life

when things unhinge

and fray

when we feel so very fragile

that there could be no one

no one on any given day

who could love us in this way

and yet does
