words

what are words

with no heart

are they sounds

like a drum

rat-a-tat-tat

or do they moan

like a violin

maybe they open

in our heads

a picture

a feeling

an ache in the chest

for in the words

we feel a thought

that we capture

in our minds

we pull it down

softly

to our hearts

for if it is only noise

escaping

is the very best part

to feel is the magic

of words

the sound lingers

for a moment

we process the waves

that transcend the heart

a luring of the soul

words create a response

an interpretation

like a snowflake

what is revealed

we keep

what is left

is stored

for another day

when the waves

crash at our feet

missed before

now foam and mist

inhale the sweetness

the fear

the dread

from the lips

from the pen

connection

from one to another

beyond bone and skin

to every place

every moment

all that we are

and all

we have ever been
